Diocesan Support

The Bible encourages all Christians to grow in giving and generosity, asking us to give a 10% tithe of our money to the church. Church of the Ascension gives 10% of its money to the Diocese of Southwest Florida. This giving supports ministries throughout the world. In addition, we give 10% of all capital improvements to the Diocese to support the building of new churches.

Episcopal Relief and Development

ERD works with Church partners and other local organizations to save lives and transform communities in almost 40 countries. We help rebuild after disasters and empower people to create lasting solutions that fight hunger, poverty, and disease. Every dollar that you give to ERD goes directly to relief efforts. The ERD is the third largest relief organization in the United States.

Jamaica Education Mission

Ascension is currently an Educational Mission partner with Albion Mountain Primary School in Jamaica. The school is owned by St. Mary’s Parish in Port Maria and the government provides teachers. The school serves 120 students in grades 1-6 in this very poor, rural community. Our parishioners assist needy students with a $300 scholarship covering uniform, books and daily lunch. The parish and the school principal oversee this effort. In the most recent school year, we underwrote 45 scholarships.

In addition, we have sent school supplies and presented two workshops for teachers in reading and math. One year, our High School Youth Group spent a week in Jamaica, giving the school a fresh coat of paint and leading a Vacation Bible School. During the coronavirus outbreak, our Ascension church family sent money to help feed hungry students and their families.

Our goal is to provide the tools to give students a basic education, grounded in Christian faith and values. We plan to continue working with St. Mary’s Parish to bring hope to the young people at Albion Mountain Primary School.
